Iceland, 2002 to 2026. In a country where everyone knows everyone, a state bank was sold in 2003 to buyers fronted by a German investor that Parliament later found was a disguise; in the emails, Kaupthing was the Puffin. The courts found that Kaupthing later lent a Qatari royal the money to buy its own shares; its leaders went to an open prison with a golf course. Two former state investigators, Kveikur reported, ran hidden cameras for a bank owner. Iceland's largest fishing company became the subject of its biggest corruption investigation, still without a charging decision. Covers Ólafur Ólafsson and Kaupthing, Hreiðar Már Sigurðsson and the al-Thani case, Sigurjón Árnason and Landsbanki, Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson and PPP, Þorsteinn Már Baldvinsson and Samherji, and Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and Wintris.
