TAIWAN - THREE FUNERALS

Read it:
Taiwan, 1949 to 2026. In 1984 the director of Taiwan's military intelligence bureau had a gang leader trained under an alias and sent to California, where his men shot a writer dead; in 2026 police screened every mourner at the funeral of the man who fired the first shot. Between those funerals: gangsters who became council speakers, owners who emptied banks and left, frigate commissions frozen in Switzerland and released to the broker's family, a president's bribe, and a scam industry taking hundreds of millions a day from ordinary Taiwanese. Covers Chen Chi-li and the Bamboo Union, Wong Hsi-ling and the intelligence bureau, Andrew Wang and the Lafayette frigate commissions, Chen Shui-bian and the Longtan land bribe, and Wang You-theng and the Rebar group.
