Read it:
Pennsylvania and Philadelphia, 2015 to 2026. In an orchard in 2018 a former private-equity analyst named Abhi Ramesh asks a farmer what happens to the apples lying on the ground and is told they are composted, dumped, or fed to the pigs. The business he builds from that answer sells cosmetically rejected produce by mail at a discount, and inside three years it is valued at two billion dollars. Then it stops being about apples. By 2026 Misfits Market sells five hundred million dollars of ordinary groceries a year, a tenth of that from substandard produce, and its real asset is roughly a million square feet of cold storage and a few hundred refrigerated vans. The waste was the story. The refrigeration was the business. Covers Abhi Ramesh, Misfits Market, and Imperfect Foods.
