Read it:
Manchester and London, 1798 to 1836. A Frankfurt cloth buyer in his early twenties arrives in England with a letter of credit and no English, and dies thirty-eight years later as the man the British government sends for when it needs gold moved across a continent at war. Nathan Mayer Rothschild built a bank out of two things nobody could patent: brothers in five cities who wrote to each other in Judendeutsch, and couriers who were faster than the mail. The Waterloo story that attaches to his name is partly false and the truth beneath it is stranger. What he actually invented was a way to sell a foreign government's debt to an English widow, and it is still how it is done. Covers Nathan Mayer Rothschild and Rothschild.
