London, Edinburgh and Brooklyn, 2011 to 2026. In a rented house in south London, Kristian Tapaninaho cannot get a domestic oven hot enough for the pizza he makes by hand, so he sketches a steel box on an iPad and pays a fence maker under a railway arch forty pounds to weld it. He and Darina Garland put it on Kickstarter in November 2012 and raise 17,136 pounds. In Brooklyn, a visual effects artist named Andrew Rea, coming out of a failed documentary and a divorce, points a camera at his own hands cooking a hamburger copied from a television comedy. Neither trained for what he ended up running. Both found out what happens when a thing done for its own sake must be made in volume for strangers. Covers Kristian Tapaninaho, Darina Garland, and Andrew Rea.
