Read it:
Roubaix, Paris and New York, 1949 to 2001. A construction engineer's son with a degree from France's hardest engineering school takes over a bankrupt textile group, for a sum nobody agrees on, because a couture house is buried inside it. He dismantles the rest and spends fifteen years acquiring names other people can no longer afford to own. Invited in 1988 into the newly merged Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessy as an ally, he leaves it as its owner. The French press of the period calls him the Terminator. What he built was a machine for owning the right to say what a thing means, and for charging the difference between what it costs and what it signifies. Covers Bernard Arnault and LVMH.
