New York, Flint and Boston, 1907 to 1940. William Crapo Durant assembles General Motors out of share exchanges, loses it twice, and spends the twenties as the most conspicuous individual operator on the New York Stock Exchange. Joseph Patrick Kennedy learns the same market from a Boston branch office, runs stock for a taxicab company, takes a studio and a vaudeville circuit apart in Hollywood, and joins a pool in a glass company in 1933. One of them is ruined by the machinery and files in bankruptcy with the clothes he stands in. The other is made first chairman of the commission built to shut the machinery down.
