Milan, Molsheim and Ängelholm, 1880 to 2024. Ettore Bugatti grew up in a house where furniture was sculpture and his brother modeled elephants from life, and he built engines the same way: polished inside, engine-turned outside, the front axle forged hollow so the springs could pass through it. A century later Christian von Koenigsegg machines a door hinge that could have been bought and shows the customer the naked carbon weave underneath the paint. Both men argue that how a part looks is the evidence it was designed right. Both companies paid for the argument in money, in volume, and in the number of years they spent nearly dead. Covers Ettore Bugatti, Christian von Koenigsegg, Bugatti, and Koenigsegg.
